Latest Seahawks News: Just In Mike Macdonald Officially Announced The Departure Of Two Top Experienced Superstar

The Seattle Seahawks have recently made significant roster changes involving two notable players: veteran offensive tackle Jason Peters and wide receiver Cornell Powell.

Jason Peters’ Retirement and New Role

After an illustrious 19-season NFL career, nine-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters has announced his retirement. Peters, 43, entered the league in 2004 as an undrafted free agent and played for teams including the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and most recently, the Seattle Seahawks. He earned two All-Pro selections and was a pivotal member of the Eagles’ Super Bowl LII championship team during the 2017 season. Over his career, Peters appeared in 248 games, starting 221 of them, and was honored as part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

In his final season, Peters joined the Seahawks’ practice squad on October 1 but did not participate in any games. Transitioning from his on-field role, Peters is set to join the Seahawks’ front office as an assistant to Maurice Kelly, the team’s vice president of player affairs. In this capacity, he will serve as a veteran mentor, working closely with the offensive linemen to impart his extensive knowledge and experience.

Cornell Powell Waived

The Seahawks have also waived wide receiver Cornell Powell. Powell, a fifth-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021, spent the latter half of the 2024 season on Seattle’s practice squad and was signed to a reserve/future contract at the season’s end. Despite his potential, the team decided to release him as part of their roster adjustments.

Powell’s football journey began at Clemson University, where he contributed to two College Football Playoff national championships in 2016 and 2018. During his time with the Chiefs, he was part of the roster that secured victories in Super Bowls LVII and LVIII. Following his release from the Seahawks, Powell signed with the DC Defenders of the United Football League (UFL) on March 3, 2025, aiming to continue his professional football career.

These developments underscore the Seahawks’ ongoing efforts to refine their roster and support system. While Peters transitions to a mentorship role within the organization, Powell seeks new opportunities to showcase his talents with the DC Defenders.
