Raiders Expected to Trade Three Draft Picks to Browns for No. 2 Pick
Lacking a strong quarterback can completely derail a team’s success. Even legendary coach Bill Belichick struggled to win without Tom Brady leading his offense.
The Las Vegas Raiders seem to be moving in the right direction under new head coach Pete Carroll, but without a solid quarterback, their success in 2025 remains uncertain. While they could target a veteran like Matthew Stafford via trade or sign Russell Wilson in free agency, these options would only serve as short-term fixes.
The best way to secure a franchise quarterback is through the draft, and the Raiders may need to trade up to land a top prospect. According to Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, a potential trade scenario involves the Raiders sending their 2025 first-round pick (No. 6 overall), second-round pick (No. 37 overall), and fourth-round pick (No. 107 overall) to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the No. 2 pick.
“The Raiders are an ideal candidate to trade with,” Kay wrote in a February 25 report. “They have little chance of landing a top-end quarterback prospect from the No. 6 slot and could be willing to part with several Day 2 and 3 picks to secure a franchise passer.
“If the Browns trade back and still land a dynamic playmaker like Travis Hunter—the No. 1 overall prospect per B/R’s Scouting Department—or elite receiver Tetairoa McMillan, this could be a game-changing draft class for a team that already possesses 12 picks.”
Who Would the Raiders Select at No. 2?
While Kay predicts the Raiders will trade up, he does not specify which quarterback they would target. However, the decision would likely come down to Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, depending on who the Tennessee Titans select at No. 1.
Ward has the superior physical tools, but Sanders is viewed as the more polished quarterback. If Ward is taken first overall, the Raiders could likely opt for Sanders. Additionally, Sanders has ties to Raiders minority owner Tom Brady, which could make for a natural fit.
John Spytek’s Approach to Finding a Quarterback
Selecting the wrong quarterback has derailed the careers of many general managers, so John Spytek faces significant pressure to make the right choice. He emphasized the importance of working with his coaching staff to evaluate all available options.
“We’ll explore every possible avenue to find a quarterback,” Spytek said in his February 25 press conference. “That includes free agency, giving opportunities to players already on our roster, and working closely with Coach [Pete Carroll], Chip [Kelly], Oly [Greg Olson], and the entire offensive staff. Our goal is to bring in as much talent as possible and foster strong competition in the quarterback room.”
With various options available, the Raiders’ approach to securing their future quarterback will be a storyline to watch this offseason.
