The Chicago Blackhawks have reassigned defenseman Louis Crevier to their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, the team announced on Monday. The move comes as Chicago continues to adjust its roster amid the ongoing NHL season, providing Crevier with the opportunity to get more ice time and further develop his game at the minor league level.
Crevier, a 22-year-old defenseman, has split time between the Blackhawks and the IceHogs this season. The 6-foot-8, 214-pound blueliner has brought size and physicality to the Blackhawks’ blue line in his appearances but remains a work in progress as he refines his game at the professional level. With Rockford, he will have the chance to take on a bigger role, logging significant minutes and continuing to hone his skills in a competitive setting.
The Blackhawks originally selected Crevier in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft (188th overall). He spent his junior career in the QMJHL with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and Québec Remparts before transitioning to professional hockey. His imposing frame and reach make him a valuable asset on defense, but he is still working to improve his skating and decision-making to become a more consistent NHL contributor.
Chicago has been navigating a season filled with injuries and roster changes, leading to multiple call-ups and assignments between the NHL and AHL. Crevier’s reassignment suggests that the Blackhawks are prioritizing his development, ensuring he gets the necessary playing time rather than sitting as a depth option at the NHL level.
Rockford, currently in the midst of its AHL campaign, will benefit from Crevier’s defensive presence. The IceHogs serve as a critical pipeline for the Blackhawks, allowing young players to gain experience and improve before making a full-time jump to the NHL. Given his potential, Crevier could see more NHL opportunities in the future, especially if Chicago deals with injuries or roster changes later in the season.
As the Blackhawks continue their rebuilding process, developing young talent like Crevier remains a focal point. His progress in Rockford will be closely monitored by the organization, and he could see another call-up depending on his performance and the team’s needs. For now, his reassignment signals a chance for him to gain more consistency and refine his game in the AHL.
