Texas Hires Former Oklahoma State Coach
Texas football has added former Oklahoma State assistant coach Jason McEndoo to its staff early in the 2025 offseason. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has brought in McEndoo, who previously coached tight ends and fullbacks for the Oklahoma State Cowboys under Mike Gundy for a decade.
McEndoo, an experienced collegiate coach with over 20 years of experience, is expected to assist with coaching tight ends and possibly a hybrid “Cowboy back” role for Texas. His addition provides valuable coaching for the Longhorns’ young tight ends, including freshman Jordan Washington and sophomore Spencer Shannon, as well as incoming blue-chip freshmen Emaree Winston and Nick Townsend.
Before his tenure at Oklahoma State, McEndoo coached offensive linemen at Montana State from 2003 to 2014, where he played a key role in developing strong offensive lines that helped the Bobcats reach the FCS playoffs. One of his standout players, guard Mike Person, was selected in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
Gundy brought McEndoo to Oklahoma State in 2015 to coach the Cowboy back position, a specialized tight end/fullback role. During his time in Stillwater, he helped develop several All-Big 12 players and future NFL tight ends, including Blake Jarwin and Jelani Woods. In 2022, he was promoted to oversee both tight ends and fullbacks for the Cowboys.
McEndoo also has connections to Texas’ coaching staff, having been teammates with special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and co-defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen at Washington State in the 1990s. Additionally, he previously worked under Texas co-defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski during his time at Montana State.
With McEndoo joining Texas, the Longhorns’ tight ends are expected to benefit from his experience in player development, especially as the team transitions into the 2025 season.
