The Pittsburgh Steelers have bolstered their tight end position by signing veteran Donald Parham Jr. to a one-year contract. Parham, who stands at 6 feet 8 inches and weighs 240 pounds, brings a wealth of experience to the team. He spent the 2024 season on the Denver Broncos’ practice squad but did not see any game action.
Prior to his time with the Broncos, Parham played four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2020 to 2023. During his tenure with the Chargers, he appeared in 47 regular-season games, starting 23 of them. Over these seasons, he accumulated 67 receptions for 764 yards, averaging 11.4 yards per catch, and scored 11 touchdowns. In the postseason, he made one appearance, recording four receptions for 23 yards. Notably, in the 2023 season, Parham achieved career highs with 27 receptions for 285 yards and four touchdowns.
Before entering the NFL, Parham showcased his talents in the XFL with the Dallas Renegades. In five games, he led the league’s tight ends with 24 receptions for 307 yards and four touchdowns. His impressive performance in the XFL caught the attention of NFL scouts, leading to his signing with the Chargers.
Parham’s collegiate career at Stetson University was equally remarkable. In his senior year, he earned first-team All-America honors after recording 85 receptions for 1,319 yards and 13 touchdowns. These statistics led all tight ends in both the FBS and FCS divisions that season.
The Steelers’ decision to sign Parham is a strategic move to enhance their tight end depth. With his size and skill set, he is expected to contribute both as an in-line blocker and a receiving threat. His addition provides a different profile compared to current tight ends on the roster, such as Darnell Washington, who is known for his blocking abilities, and Connor Heyward, who is utilized more as an H-back. Veteran MyCole Pruitt is a pending free agent and is unlikely to return after battling knee injuries throughout 2024.
Parham’s signing reflects the Steelers’ commitment to strengthening their roster and adding experienced players who can make an immediate impact. His proven track record in both the NFL and XFL, combined with his impressive collegiate achievements, positions him as a valuable asset to the team. Fans can look forward to seeing how Parham’s skills will complement the Steelers’ offensive strategies in the upcoming season.
