The Dodgers have signed veteran outfielder to a minor league contract, as reported by Ari Alexander of KPRC2. Rosario had been searching for a new team since being released from a previous minor league deal with the Mets in August.
A 10-year MLB veteran, Rosario’s most memorable moment ironically came at the expense of the Dodgers in 2021. During the NLCS, he delivered an outstanding performance, posting a 1.647 OPS over 28 plate appearances to help the Braves defeat Los Angeles. His efforts earned him NLCS MVP honors, and he later secured a World Series ring when Atlanta defeated the Astros.
Following that championship season, the Braves re-signed Rosario to a two-year, $18 million deal. However, his performance over the next three years was inconsistent. He struggled at the plate in 2022 but bounced back in 2023 with 21 home runs. Despite his resurgence, the Braves declined his $9 million club option for 2024.
Rosario then signed with the Nationals, but his struggles continued, leading to his release in July. A return to Atlanta failed to revive his form, and his brief stint with the Mets did not result in any MLB action. Overall, Rosario’s 2024 season ended with a disappointing .175/.215/.316 slash line over 319 plate appearances with Washington and Atlanta.
By signing Rosario to a minor league deal, the Dodgers face no risk while evaluating whether the 33-year-old can regain his form after multiple inconsistent seasons. Given Los Angeles’ stacked roster, Rosario’s chances of making the Opening Day squad appear slim. However, a strong showing in spring training or an injury to another player could increase his chances. Even if he doesn’t secure a spot with the Dodgers, an impressive Cactus League performance could help him land with another team before the season begins.
