South Carolina cornerback commit is keeping his options open and plans to set up an official visit with Georgia. The Bulldogs hosted Dyer, a Duluth (Ga.) prospect, during their Feb. 1 junior day, making him the only recruit at the event who is currently pledged to another school.
Dyer has been committed to South Carolina since Nov. 4, joining his high school teammate Damola Ajidahun, who signed with the Gamecocks in December. At the moment, Dyer has just one official visit lined up—to South Carolina from June 20-22. However, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and cornerbacks coach Donte Williams are making a strong push to get him on campus officially.
“Coach Donte invited me to junior day, set a date, and I came with my coach,” Dyer told Dawgs247. “I had a one-on-one talk with Coach Kirby, got to hang with the staff, play video games, and eat. They made sure I had a good time.”
That visit also included a private conversation with Smart, an opportunity few recruits received. Smart emphasized how highly Georgia values Dyer’s skill set and made it clear he would personally be involved in his recruitment. Recently, Smart has been reaching out directly to Dyer, which is rare for the head coach.
“He told me he doesn’t usually text recruits like that, but he’s going to start reaching out more, and I’ll do the same,” Dyer said.
Although an official visit to Georgia has yet to be scheduled, Dyer expects to finalize plans soon.
“Kirby said he knows other schools are after me, but he’s going to give it his all,” Dyer said. “Right now, I don’t have anything scheduled, but he told me I need to take a visit, so we’ll set one up.”
During his visit, Dyer met with Williams for a film study session, where they discussed his potential role in Georgia’s defense. While he has the versatility to play multiple spots in the secondary, Georgia envisions him as a boundary corner due to his strong coverage ability.
Dyer is currently rated as a three-star prospect, ranking as the No. 20 cornerback nationally and the No. 33 player in Georgia, according to 247Sports. With Georgia ramping up its recruitment, the Bulldogs will be a team to watch in his recruitment moving forward.
