Raiders Could Trade for 37-TD QB in Major Deal
The Las Vegas Raiders’ recent success may have hurt their chances of securing a top quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. By winning two of their last three games, they moved from potentially holding the No. 1 overall pick to the No. 6 pick.
While there’s a possibility that Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders could still be available, the Raiders might not want to take that gamble. If they are set on landing one of those quarterbacks, trading up could be necessary.
Moving up in the draft won’t be cheap, but CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards believes the Raiders might be willing to pay the price. In a recent mock draft, he projected that Las Vegas would strike a deal with the Cleveland Browns to acquire the No. 2 pick, selecting Sanders.
“With Cam Ward off the board, teams will need to be aggressive if they view Shedeur Sanders as a top prospect,” Edwards wrote in his February 6 mock draft. “If the Browns aren’t fully committed to drafting a quarterback but the Raiders are, they may want to jump ahead of the quarterback-needy Giants. Cleveland would be open to making a trade, and Las Vegas could make an offer worth their while.”
Warren Sapp’s High Praise for Sanders
Raiders Hall of Famer Warren Sapp, who spent last year as an assistant coach at Colorado, had an up-close look at Sanders and spoke highly of him.
“He’s a damn good quarterback—actually, he’s great,” Sapp told Zach Gelb. “When I call someone great, I mean Hall of Fame level. He was born to play this position. The key is building the right system around him. If a coach or coordinator isn’t fully on board, you could see a situation like Bryce Young in Carolina.”
Sapp emphasized that teams need to put Sanders in a system that maximizes his strengths. He compared the situation to Vince Young’s early success in the NFL, questioning why Young wasn’t given more opportunities despite winning 30 of his first 47 games.
Could the Browns Keep Sanders?
If both the Browns and Tennessee Titans view Ward and Sanders as franchise quarterbacks, the Raiders may have no chance to draft either player.
One potential scenario that could help Las Vegas is if Sanders refuses to play for Cleveland. His father, Deion Sanders, has previously stated that they would be selective about which teams he plays for, but no specifics have been given.
