“He Wants To Leave, He Told Me” Astros GM drops huge hint about Alex Bregman

The Houston Astros’ uncertainty regarding Alex Bregman’s future appears to be tilting toward an eventual departure.

During the team’s annual media luncheon on Tuesday, Astros general manager Dana Brown hinted at the likelihood of Bregman’s exit. According to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle, Brown referred to Bregman in the past tense multiple times and even said the team had “lost Bregman.” However, when asked for clarification, Brown acknowledged that discussions were still ongoing because Bregman remains available. Still, his initial remarks may have revealed Houston’s true stance.

Bregman, a two-time All-Star who has spent his entire MLB career with the Astros since 2016, has been a free agent for over three months. From the beginning, few expected him to re-sign with Houston, including Brown himself. The Astros have already bolstered their infield by acquiring Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes, both of whom could fill Bregman’s role offensively and defensively.

Recently, there was a glimmer of hope for a possible reunion, as Houston reportedly re-engaged with Bregman’s camp since he remains unsigned. Even star second baseman Jose Altuve expressed his willingness to change positions to facilitate Bregman’s return.

However, negotiations between the two sides have faced significant obstacles, and it now seems Brown is signaling that the team is ready to move forward without Bregman. If that’s the case, the 30-year-old third baseman is now more likely to land with one of the other teams reportedly interested in signing him.
