Latest Raiders News: Raiders Officially Reached Mutual Agreement With Superbowl Winning Top Veteran QB

Raiders Encouraged to Pursue Major Quarterback Move in 2025 Free Agency

As the NFL offseason begins, the Las Vegas Raiders have several areas to address, with the quarterback position being the most pressing. The team is in desperate need of an upgrade under center and has multiple paths to find a solution, whether through free agency, the 2025 NFL Draft, or a trade.

Among the various options, analysts have suggested that the Raiders make a bold move in free agency. According to The 33rd Team, Sam Darnold should be the team’s top target. The publication projected a potential three-year, $124 million contract for the veteran quarterback.

Holding the No. 6 pick in the draft, the Raiders may find it difficult to land top quarterback prospects such as Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. Additionally, with Pete Carroll now in place as head coach, there is speculation that he may prefer an experienced quarterback rather than developing a rookie.

Darnold, coming off a strong 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings, could be an ideal fit. Though not considered an elite option, he would provide stability at the position in a division featuring elite quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Bo Nix. With offensive weapons such as Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers already in place, Las Vegas could build a competitive offense around him.

During his 2024 campaign with the Vikings, Darnold played in all 17 games, completing 66.2 percent of his passes for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also contributed 212 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground. Despite past inconsistencies, his recent performance suggests he could still develop into a long-term solution for a team in need of a quarterback.

While questions remain about whether Darnold can sustain his success outside of Minnesota’s system, the Raiders must make a decision soon. He represents one of the best available options and could bring stability to the position.

As free agency approaches, all eyes will be on Las Vegas to see how they choose to address their quarterback situation, with Darnold emerging as a name to watch closely.
