Incoming Auburn freshman quarterback Deuce Knight continues to rack up accolades before even setting foot on campus. Knight, a key member of Hugh Freeze’s No. 6-ranked 2025 recruiting class, was recently named one of the top 30 incoming freshmen in the nation by On3.
A standout from George County High School in Lucedale, Mississippi, Knight initially committed to Notre Dame before flipping to Auburn. While he is unlikely to start in 2025 with Oklahoma transfer Jackson Arnold also joining the Tigers, Knight’s potential as a future leader of the offense is undeniable. His skill set has drawn comparisons to quarterbacks like Michael Penix Jr. and Auburn legend Cam Newton, further elevating expectations.
On3’s Charles Power ranked Knight as the No. 26 five-star prospect in the 2025 class, making him the sixth-ranked quarterback on the list. He trails Michigan’s Bryce Underwood (1), Alabama’s Keelon Russell (2), USC’s Husan Longstreet (12), California’s Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (20), and Ohio State’s Tavien St. Clair (25). Additionally, Knight is the second-ranked five-star recruit from Alabama, following Oregon commit Na’Eem Offord (17).
The hype surrounding Knight is immense, as Auburn has not landed a quarterback of this caliber since Bo Nix. However, his consistent growth throughout high school suggests he is more than capable of handling the pressure. Unlike Nix, who was thrust into a starting role immediately, Knight will likely have time to adjust to the speed of the college game before taking the reins. With his talent and preparation, he has the potential to not only meet but exceed the lofty expectations placed upon him.
