Auburn football secured an important commitment following a successful recruiting weekend on the Plains. The Tigers hosted over 30 prospects for a Junior Day event, focusing on building relationships and landing commitments from key players. Among the weekend’s highlights was the pledge from running back Omar Mabson, a local talent who reclassified from the 2026 recruiting class to 2025.
Mabson, a standout at Auburn High School, made an official visit to the Plains this past weekend. He has built a strong connection with head coach Hugh Freeze and offensive coordinator and running backs coach Derrick Nix, who have actively recruited him. Both Freeze and Nix have visited Mabson at his high school and home, reinforcing Auburn’s commitment to landing the talented back. Mabson’s official visit to Auburn followed a trip to Alabama, and by Monday morning, his decision was final. He announced his commitment to Auburn via his social media accounts.
The decision was influenced not only by the relationships he developed with the coaching staff but also by Mabson’s readiness to take his football career to the next level. During his junior season at Auburn High, he showcased impressive stats, rushing for 1,515 yards and scoring 29 touchdowns while averaging an impressive 8.2 yards per carry. His strong performance on the field led to his decision to reclassify to the 2025 class, as he felt prepared to move forward in his football journey.
While Mabson will remain close to home, he is determined to approach his role with Auburn football with professionalism. In an interview with Auburn Live, he emphasized his mindset: “It feels good, but I’m not going to be at the house, though. I’m going to treat it like I’m out in California or somewhere. I’m going to treat it like I’m going to college to play football and pursue going to the NFL. I’m very excited. I’m ready to compete. War Eagle!”
With Mabson’s commitment, Auburn continues to bolster its 2025 recruiting class. He is the 26th high school recruit to join the program and the 42nd overall addition. Mabson’s decision reflects the momentum Auburn is building under Freeze’s leadership as they work to attract top-tier talent to the Plains.
