, the former Philadelphia Phillies catcher, has announced his retirement from professional baseball. The 33-year-old made his MLB debut in 2017 after being drafted by the Phillies in the second round of the 2013 draft. Knapp spent five seasons with the Phillies from 2017 to 2021, with his standout year coming in the 2020 season when he posted a career-high .278 batting average and an .849 OPS in just 33 games.

Throughout his 309 games with the Phillies, Knapp compiled a .214/.314/.322 slash line with 13 home runs and 62 RBIs. After leaving the Phillies in 2021, he played for multiple teams, including the Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, and Texas Rangers. He played in 19 MLB games, finishing his career with a .209/.309/.312 line, 13 home runs, and 66 RBIs across seven seasons.

 

Knapp, who credits his father’s influence for his career, expressed gratitude for his time in the game, highlighting the relationships he built, the lessons learned, and the importance of character both on and off the field. Although he spent most of his career in the minors, Knapp made memorable contributions during his time with the Phillies, including helping the team with one of their 12 walk-off wins in his final season.
