Virginia Tech Hokies Secure Veteran Wide Receiver Donavon Greene
It’s been a busy week for the Virginia Tech Hokies, capped by the addition of experienced wide receiver Donavon Greene from Wake Forest. Greene, a former four-star recruit out of Mount Airy High School in North Carolina, announced his decision to transfer to Virginia Tech on Instagram. At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, Greene brings size, speed, and experience to the Hokies’ receiving corps.
Greene made an immediate impact at Wake Forest, starting eight games in 2020 and recording 29 receptions for 582 yards (20.1 YPR) and two touchdowns. Injuries sidelined him in both 2021 and 2023, but he rebounded in 2022 with 37 catches for 642 yards (17.4 YPR) and six touchdowns. In 2024, Greene tallied 23 receptions for 380 yards (16.5 YPR) and three scores. When healthy, Greene has proven to be a dynamic playmaker, and he is expected to be a key part of Virginia Tech’s offense in 2025.
The Hokies are rebuilding their receiving unit after losing several key players, including Jaylin Lane, Da’Quan Felton, Ali Jennings, and Stephen Gosnell to the NFL Draft. Two other receivers, Xayvion Turner-Bradshaw and Chance Fitzgerald, transferred. However, Greene’s arrival, alongside young talent like Ayden Green, Brodie Adams, and Chanz Wiggins, provides a solid foundation. Additionally, prized recruit Snook Peterkin and versatile transfer Cameron Seldon are expected to make significant contributions.
Greene joins 16 other transfer additions this offseason, making him the 17th player and sixth this week. Notably, he shares ties to Mount Airy High School with current Hokies Tyler Mason and Deric Dandy, and the school is just 90 minutes from Blacksburg.
If Greene can stay healthy, he could have a standout year with the Hokies. Welcome to Blacksburg, Donavon!
