Stephanie White, the leading contender to succeed Christie Sides as head coach of the Indiana Fever, is a favorite of Caitlin Clark. She is regarded as a “great basketball mind” by the current Rookie of the Year.
Nothing is set in stone, but it now appears like a rare WNBA reunion is inevitable.
White, 47, played for the Connecticut Sun for the previous two seasons. Conveniently, both parties “parted ways” on Monday, which is a clear sign of what is about to happen. Over the past several weeks, she has been in discussions with the Fever and the Sky over their vacancies, and if we’re being honest, the chance to teach Aliyah Boston and Clark is considerably more intriguing than coaching Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.
White has a long history with the Fever as well. In the early 2000s, she spent five seasons playing for Indiana, and in her two years as head coach in 2015 and 2016, she guided the team to the WNBA title game. White was hired nearly ten years ago by Kelly Krauskopf, the team’s basketball and business operations president. The same thing appears to be on the verge of happening once more.
Stephanie White is certain to become the next head coach of the Indiana Fever, barring a last-minute surprise. Caitlin Clark supports the action.
The all-time top scorer in college basketball has not responded to her team’s coaching search, but she is well acquainted with the front-runner. When White was on the call for Clark’s games during her time at Iowa, they frequently crossed paths.
Back in May, the latter gave the former good marks. It just so happened that she played against the Sun in her first regular season game as a professional. Clark is a huge admirer.
Throughout college, she has undoubtedly called many of my games. She has an excellent basketball mind, and I believe she has done a fantastic job officiating college games. Seeing her at NBA games has been fantastic. To be honest, I believe what she’s done is just— she’s been a trailblazer. She has, I believe, consistently encouraged me to improve my game. Throughout my time in college, I’ve enjoyed conversing with her at shootarounds and have always received a lot of encouragement.
