Guard Kelsey Mitchell has officially finished her seventh year in the WNBA, as the Indiana Fever’s 2024 season draws to a close with an early playoff elimination. Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Mitchell all had their greatest seasons to date.
She was selected as a WNBA All-Star for the second time in her career and assisted Indiana in making their first postseason berth since 2016. In addition, the former Ohio State Buckeyes standout recorded career-highs in shooting efficiency (46.8%) and points per game (19.2). The Fever have praised their players on social media to commemorate a fantastic season. In recognition of Mitchell, Indiana gave her a new moniker on Thursday.
The Fever posted, “Kelsey Mitchell is a certified bucket,” on X. Mitchell and the Fever increased their level of play once the WNBA returned from the Olympic break. Mitchell established a record for Indiana during that period by scoring 20 points or more in seven consecutive games, establishing herself as a “certified bucket.
” Mitchell had agreed to a three-year, $618,000 contract deal to remain in Indiana before the 2022 season. However, her contract expires this offseason, making her an unrestricted free agent. Linn Dunn, the general manager of the Fever, has stated that she intends to have Mitchell return for the 2025 campaign and beyond. She has, however, turned over all talks to Kelly Krauskopf, the team’s new president of basketball and business operations, who was a member of the Fever from 2000 to 2017.
