During his press conference on October 22, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin informed the media that defensive lineman Montravius Adams will not be playing in Week 8. It turns out that he will also have to miss three more games.
A few hours after Tomlin’s news conference, Adams was placed on injured reserve by the Steelers. In Week 7, Adams left the team’s game against the New York Jets due to a knee injury.
The Steelers acquired cornerback C.J. Henderson from their practice squad to take his position on the active roster. Henderson was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the ninth overall choice in the 2020 NFL Draft.
He had been a member of the Steelers practice squad for about a month.
The Steelers added defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko to their practice squad as part of their last roster move on October 22. He will fill the void left by Henderson’s transfer to the active roster.
The Steelers Add CB C.J. Henderson to the roster of 53 players.
The Steelers made an intriguing decision by adding Henderson to the active roster. Given that Adams and Henderson play different defensive positions, Henderson will surely not take Adams’ place.
Donte Jackson, the starting cornerback, was also injured against the Jets in addition to Adams. The Steelers have more depth at cornerback now that Henderson is on the active roster.
During his press conference, however, Tomlin informed reporters that the club considers Jackson’s Week 7 shoulder injury to be “minor.” Jackson should play against the New York Giants in Week 8, Tomlin continued.
However, the Steelers only had Jackson and three other cornerbacks on the roster before to signing Henderson: Beanie Bishop, James Pierre, and Joey Porter Jr. After Jackson left in Week 7, they all played a lot.
In the event that Jackson is unable to play against the Giants, the Steelers will still be able to dress four cornerbacks thanks to Henderson’s addition to the roster.
In Jacksonville, Henderson fell short of his draft projections. After playing in just 10 games between 2020 and 21st, the Jaguars moved him to the Carolina Panthers. Over the course of three seasons, Henderson appeared in 39 games with the Panthers.
Henderson trained with the Houston Texans in 2024, but during the preseason, he was cut off the team’s roster.
Several players might return for the Steelers in Week 8.
Adams was put on injured reserve by the Steelers, meaning he will miss at least four games. However, as they started to get ready for Week 8, the Steelers got largely good news about injuries.
On October 8, Tomlin informed reporters that running back Cordarrelle Patterson and linebacker Tyler Matakevich may return this week. Patterson last played in Week 4, and Matakevich hasn’t played since Week 2.
Against the Giants, the Steelers also anticipate the return of safety Damontae Kazee.
During his news conference, Tomlin also stated that he had no updates with center Zach Frazier or edge rusher Nick Herbig. Both of those players are missed by the Steelers on both the offensive and defensive ends.
However, it’s crucial to remember that the Steelers will have a bye in Week 9 following their game against the Giants. Therefore, they might not want to force any of their injured players to return before they are ready.
The Steelers’ injured players will have two weeks to recover before the team’s next game if they can use their depth to win one more game.
