Since Kelsey Mitchell’s future with the Indiana Fever remains uncertain, there has been a lot of discussion about her. The two-time All-Star is currently a free agent, and should she choose not to accept the Fever’s offer of a contract extension, she may decide to leave the organization.
However, Mitchell is not the only celebrity who might be about to retire. NaLyssa Smith, a 6-foot-4 forward who became involved in some controversy following Indiana’s playoff elimination versus the Connecticut Sun, may also be on the move.
Smith chose to take the Fever off of her social media bio for an unknown reason. She also sent a long farewell letter at the end of the season, which many fans interpreted as a farewell. Smith’s reflection on her 2024 season in Indiana was captured in a video that the Fever shared on Sunday. But the feedback she received on her remarks, which as of this writing have received 325,000 views in less than 12 hours since being uploaded on X (previously Twitter), was universal among the fans.
Fans of the Fever did not hold back when they expressed their thoughts about Smith and how they thought the 24-year-old would eventually be dealt out of the squad. “Time to trade Smith to the Sun,” a fan of the Fever exclaimed. Another responded, “Good luck somewhere else.”
“She’s not on this team,” an Indiana supporter exclaimed. Another comment said, “Unfortunately, it will be with another team.” “Trade her,” said one more. “I blocked people over her and defended her for the whole season. I was in error. excellent player, but unsuited to this type of play.
And her girl is a major headache for her work at this team. A admirer responded, “I would never do this at my husband’s place of employment.” To put things in perspective, Smith’s real-life partner, Connecticut Sun player DiJonai Carrington, was mentioned in that previous tweet. That was the same team that beat the Fever in the opening round, and Carrington was the same player who, in Game 1, unintentionally poked Caitlin Clark in the eye and sparked a heated debate.
It’s evident at this time that a sizable portion of Indiana supporters have given up on NaLyssa Smith. It remains to be seen, though, if this plays a role in her future with the Fever.
