Even though Auburn’s football team fell to Oklahoma in the end, there were some significant moments in the game’s first half when things were going well. Luke Deal, a senior tight end, made a catch in the end zone during one of those memorable plays.
Deal, a six-year Auburn football player, has been a key member of the squad for two seasons. Deal clarified how he sees his position on the club when asked if he was anticipating more routes following his impressive touchdown.
Deal stated, “No, no, it was a special thing,” according to Auburn Live. “Being able to accomplish that in front of my family and the student section. It was rather exciting that it happened because it was a huge game and they remembered my dad’s death from ALS. I will always remember that moment. Ultimately, my role and that of the other tight ends are to fulfill the demands of the team. The team has to need me to score a touchdown if they want me to. I’ll play special teams if that’s what they require of me. I’ll also provide an additional tackle if necessary. Whatever it takes to make this squad successful in the end and experience what it’s like in the locker room afterward. That is my responsibility on this team.
Advice from Payton Thorne about getting ready for the Georgia game
This weekend, the Tigers will travel for the first time to face one of the nation’s toughest teams, following five games in a row at home. This Saturday’s game in Athens, the Deep South’s oldest rivalry, will see a lot of inexperienced players thrown into the fire in a competitive SEC setting.
Senior quarterback Payton Thorne, who has seen a few pivotal moments during his collegiate football career, has shared words of wisdom with the players about to embark on their first road trip.
Thorne reportedly added, “Just that number one you can’t act like it’s not different, it is different,” according to Auburn Undercover. “You need to be aware of that before the game so that you can enter there anticipating what those men might see or hear. Additionally, though, just to ignore it.
“That’s a lot easier said than done sometimes, but we’re going to have practice with the noise all week I’m sure so they’ll get used to that, but just going to have to have good communication and stay locked in with what we’re doing.”
On Saturday, the Tigers and Dawgs will play from Athens at 2:30 p.m. central time.
