The best off-season acquisition made by the Boston Bruins, Elias Lindholm, has yet to skate for his new team and is still sidelined with an undisclosed day-to-day injury. Lindholm signed a seven-year, $54.25 million contract to head the Bruins’ top line. He hasn’t even participated in a game or skated in full contact, though. Not even the opening of training camp has escaped his notice.
Head coach Jim Montgomery has been reticent about Lindholm’s health, stating that the center is being held out as a precaution and won’t likely play anytime soon. Speaking on Tuesday, Montgomery said, “He took the day off, didn’t give it a go today just because of where he’s at.” “He’s day to day not going to play this week.”
Andrew Fantucchio reported a few days earlier that Montgomery had said, “We’re being extra cautious,” in reference to Lindholm’s recovery at the start of camp on September 20. What’s more concerning is that the Bruins haven’t disclosed the exact nature of Lindholm’s injury, even though Montgomery hinted that it might be connected to discomfort.
“The Bruins have not disclosed the reason that Lindholm is off the ice, with Montgomery saying Friday they were just being extra cautious, indicating the issue was something like soreness,” according to NHL.com on Sept. 24. Lindholm’s absence is due to the fact that the Bruins outperformed expectations the previous season despite being without a key first-line center.
The forward finished 2023–24 with 44 points (15 goals, 29 assists) in 75 games during the regular season after being dealt in midseason by the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames the previous year. He added ten more points in thirteen postseason games with the Vancouver Canucks.
