All season long, freshman Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever has been competing for the WNBA’s freshman of the Year title, most notably against Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese. Recently, Clark and Reese faced off for the last game of their rookie campaigns, and the Fever came out on top 100-81 to send Chicago packing. In addition to scoring a game-high 31 points, the Fever guard also contributed 12 assists and four rebounds.
After the game, she contributed to raising Clark’s season averages, which now stand at 18.4 points, 8.3 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per contest. She leads the WNBA in average assists and leads the rookie class in points per game. Clark also holds the top five highest-scoring games by a rookie during her incredible rookie season, scoring 30 points or more three different times. Throughout the season, the Fever have been pushing for Clark to win Rookie of the Year, but Angel Reese has been the obstacle in their path. In each game, Reese has averaged 13.2 points and 12.9 rebounds. She leads the WNBA in average rebounds and is the only rookie averaging a double-double. Reese has shot 38.6% from the field, while she is shooting 41.9%. With a few games remaining in the regular season, both rookies can make a last-ditch effort to win Rookie of the Year.
