Since being acquired in the Rowdy Tellez deal in 2021, Richards has been a Blue Jay. He has a 4.75 ERA over 221.2 innings pitched, 273 strikeouts, and 104 walks. Although he has never had trouble missing bats, he has a tendency to give up too many free passes and take a few too hard hits.
Harry, a 21-year-old Penn State graduate, is a 2023 sixth-round selection. He wasn’t included in the Twins’ top 30 prospects by Baseball America, which ranked him as the #426 prospect in that draft. While his strikeout percentage of 19% this year at A+ is more respectable than spectacular, he was rated as a good contact hitter in the draft. Despite having little power and a low walk rate, he is an aggressive hitter who has hit 8 home runs in 82 games this season. Though the Jays clearly prefer a pure hitter, it’s possible that they see a little more in him than just organization depth.
