Mike Dunleavy Jr. Officially Announces the Signing of Kevin Knox II and Braxton Key on Two-Way Contracts
Golden State Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has officially confirmed the signing of two highly talented and experienced free agents, Kevin Knox II and Braxton Key. Both players have agreed to two-way contracts with the Warriors, adding depth and versatility to the team as the NBA season continues.
Kevin Knox II, a former lottery pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, was selected ninth overall by the New York Knicks. Known for his athleticism and scoring ability, Knox has several years of NBA experience under his belt. Throughout his career, he has played for multiple teams including the Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, and Portland Trail Blazers. Standing at 6-foot-7, Knox is a forward with the capability to stretch the floor, knock down shots from the perimeter, and contribute on the defensive end when needed. His size, shooting range, and versatility make him a valuable addition to the Warriors’ system, especially in a role where he can continue to develop and potentially earn time with the main roster.
Braxton Key, another skilled forward, also brings significant experience to the Warriors organization. Known for his defensive prowess, Key has spent time in the NBA G League and has made brief appearances in the NBA. He played college basketball at the University of Virginia, where he was part of the Cavaliers’ 2019 NCAA Championship team. Key’s defensive mindset, strong rebounding, and ability to guard multiple positions give him a solid foundation as a two-way player. His G League performances have showcased his ability to impact the game on both ends of the court, making him a promising addition to Golden State’s development pipeline.
By signing both Knox and Key to two-way contracts, the Warriors are strategically adding experienced depth while also leaving room for growth. Two-way contracts allow players to split their time between the NBA team and its G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. This setup gives the coaching staff flexibility to evaluate the players closely while providing both Knox and Key an opportunity to prove themselves and potentially secure a full-time roster spot.
Mike Dunleavy Jr. expressed confidence in both players’ abilities to contribute to the team. He praised their professional experience, skill sets, and work ethic, noting that their addition will strengthen the Warriors’ overall roster depth. As the season progresses, Knox and Key could become key contributors, especially when injuries or rotation changes create opportunities.
The Warriors continue to focus on building a competitive roster, and these two signings demonstrate their commitment to developing talent while also having experienced players ready when needed. Both Kevin Knox II and Braxton Key bring unique skills that align with the Warriors’ style of play, and their presence will be closely monitored as the team pushes forward in the season.
