Auburn University’s men’s basketball program, under the guidance of head coach Bruce Pearl, is navigating significant roster changes as two prominent players have departed. Aden Holloway, a guard known for his agility and shooting prowess, has transferred to the University of Alabama. Additionally, Chad Baker-Mazara, a versatile forward recognized for his defensive skills and perimeter shooting, has also left the team.
Holloway’s decision to join Auburn’s in-state rival has garnered attention. During his freshman year at Auburn, he averaged 7.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, starting in 26 of 35 games. His move to Alabama has sparked reactions from the Auburn community, including a notable response from Coach Pearl’s daughter, Jacqui, who posted a waving hand emoji on social media, seemingly addressing Holloway’s departure.
Coach Pearl addressed Holloway’s transfer, characterizing it as a “win-win” situation for both parties. He acknowledged Holloway’s contributions to Auburn and expressed optimism about his future at Alabama. Pearl stated, “Obviously, he played here, so we have some familiarity about his game. We know a little bit of how he plays; it’ll be fun playing against him again.”
