The Golden State Warriors have announced the signing of forward Kevin Knox II to a 10-day contract, adding depth to their roster as they navigate the final stretch of the NBA regular season. The move comes as the Warriors continue to deal with injuries and seek additional frontcourt help, hoping Knox can provide valuable minutes off the bench.
Knox, a former first-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, was selected ninth overall by the New York Knicks after a standout freshman season at the University of Kentucky. Known for his size, athleticism, and scoring potential, Knox entered the league with high expectations. However, his NBA journey has been marked by inconsistency and limited playing time as he bounced around several teams in recent seasons.
Throughout his six-year NBA career, Knox has played for the Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, and most recently, the Portland Trail Blazers. In Portland, Knox appeared in 21 games during the 2023-2024 season, averaging 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. Despite some solid performances, the Trail Blazers waived Knox earlier this season, making him a free agent.
The Warriors see Knox as a low-risk addition with potential upside. At 6-foot-7 with a 7-foot wingspan, Knox brings size and length to a Warriors frontcourt that has lacked depth at times this year. His ability to stretch the floor as a capable three-point shooter also fits well with Golden State’s offensive system. In his best NBA season with the Knicks, Knox averaged 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a rookie, showcasing his scoring ability and athleticism.
Golden State has dealt with injuries throughout the season, including absences from key players like Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and Gary Payton II. Knox’s arrival gives head coach Steve Kerr another option off the bench as the Warriors look to solidify their playoff positioning in the competitive Western Conference.
Knox will have an opportunity to prove himself during this 10-day contract, showcasing his skills in practices and potentially earning minutes in upcoming games. If he performs well, the Warriors could consider extending his contract for the remainder of the season.
