After Arizona State’s hard-fought 39–31 double-overtime loss to Texas in the 2024 Peach Bowl, Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham received a supportive message from Colorado’s Deion Sanders. Sanders praised Dillingham’s leadership and the Sun Devils’ performance, stating, “Kenny Dillingham, you represented all of us from the Big 12 well my brother. We are proud of u and your team. God bless u all. You’re awesome
Dillingham responded succinctly with a three-word reply: “Thank you coach!”
Despite the loss, Arizona State’s season was a remarkable success. Picked to finish last in the Big 12 preseason poll, the Sun Devils defied expectations by capturing the Big 12 championship and earning a spot in the College Football Playoff. Dillingham was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for his efforts.
The game itself was a thrilling contest. After trailing 17–3 at halftime, Arizona State mounted a comeback in the second half, tying the game and sending it into overtime. However, Texas secured the win in double overtime, advancing to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Dillingham’s brief yet appreciative response to Sanders highlighted the mutual respect between the two coaches and underscored the sportsmanship prevalent in the Big 12.
