Auburn Safety Terrance Love Expected to Enter Transfer Portal Following Spring Practice
With spring practices wrapping up, roster changes are beginning to take shape for the Auburn Tigers. According to a report from On3, junior safety Terrance Love is planning to enter the NCAA transfer portal once the spring window opens on April 16. His departure would add to the growing list of players across college football reevaluating their situations after spring workouts conclude.
Love, who has spent the past two seasons with Auburn, has seen limited playing time during his collegiate career. In the 2024 season, he appeared in 10 games but managed only a single tackle, indicating that he struggled to break into the Tigers’ regular defensive rotation. As a freshman in 2023, Love participated in 11 games and recorded six tackles along with one pass breakup. Despite being a promising young prospect when he arrived on campus, he was never able to secure a consistent role in Auburn’s defensive backfield.
His decision to explore opportunities elsewhere likely stems from the increased competition within Auburn’s safety unit heading into the 2025 season. The Tigers made several moves this offseason to bolster depth and talent in their secondary, especially at the safety position. Auburn welcomed two highly touted freshmen, AnQuon Fegans and Eric Winters, both of whom arrived as blue-chip recruits and are expected to push for immediate playing time. In addition, the Tigers brought in Georgia Tech transfer Taye Seymore, further crowding the depth chart at the position.
With more talent coming in and playing time increasingly hard to come by, Love’s decision to transfer seems aimed at finding a better opportunity to contribute on the field. The NCAA’s spring transfer portal window opens on April 16 and runs through April 30, giving players two weeks to officially enter their names and explore new destinations for the upcoming season.
Auburn, meanwhile, is expected to remain active during the transfer window, not only to manage potential departures like Love’s but also to continue reshaping the roster. Head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff are still looking to add talent in key areas, and the transfer portal offers a vital chance to address needs heading into summer workouts and fall camp.
Terrance Love originally came to Auburn as part of the 2023 recruiting class, bringing versatility and athleticism to the Tigers’ secondary. However, with the program’s push to upgrade its defensive backfield and the emergence of younger players, Love is opting to move on in hopes of finding a program where he can earn more significant playing time.
As the transfer portal officially reopens, Auburn fans can expect more movement both in and out of the program. Love’s exit would create another spot for the coaching staff to potentially fill as they continue to build a competitive and deep roster for the 2025 campaign.
