Virginia Tech Lands 2026 Commitment from Kicker Will Love, Younger Brother of Current Hokie John Love
Virginia Tech continues to build a strong family tradition on the recruiting trail, especially when it comes to bringing in brothers. Over the weekend, the Hokies added another sibling to their roster, securing a commitment from kicker Will Love, the younger brother of current Virginia Tech standout John Love. Will becomes the second member of the Hokies’ 2026 recruiting class.
Will Love is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound kicker from Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He received his offer from Virginia Tech back in February and ultimately chose the Hokies over an offer from Norfolk State. Although he didn’t have a long list of offers, several regional Power Four programs had been showing increasing interest in him—a common scenario for specialists, who often receive attention later in the recruiting process as schools prioritize other positions first.
In his 2024 season, Love showed impressive leg strength and accuracy. He converted 24 of his 25 extra-point attempts and went 9-for-15 on field goals, including several from long range. He originally broke his school’s record with a 51-yard field goal early in the season, only to surpass it with a booming 54-yarder in October.
Will follows in the footsteps of his older brother, John Love, who has been Virginia Tech’s primary kicker for the past two seasons. A redshirt junior, John has been remarkably consistent, converting all 89 of his point-after attempts and 39 of 44 field goal tries—a success rate of 88.6%. He has earned honorable mention All-ACC honors in each of the past two years and has demonstrated strong range, hitting three of four attempts from beyond 50 yards last season and converting 11 of 12 attempts from 40-49 yards during his career.
With Will joining the program and John still having two years of eligibility remaining, Virginia Tech looks poised to maintain a strong kicking game for the foreseeable future. The younger Love’s commitment adds depth and continuity to a key position, and the Hokies’ track record with family connections continues to serve them well.
As the Hokies look ahead to the future, the Love brothers could very well form a kicking dynasty in Blacksburg—making special teams one of Virginia Tech’s most reliable units in the coming years.
