Breaking: Pittsburgh Steelers Cut Ties With Another Top Experienced Superstar Due To Failed Contract Negotiations

Former Steelers Wide Receiver  Signs With Chicago Bears

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Miles Boykin has landed a new opportunity in the NFL, joining the Chicago Bears on a one-year deal, according to a report from PennLive.com’s Nick Farabaugh. This move marks a homecoming for Boykin, who is originally from Tinley Park, Illinois, located just outside of Chicago.

Boykin spent two seasons with the Steelers, from 2022 to 2023. While his time in Pittsburgh did not feature significant offensive production — he recorded just five receptions for 28 yards — he made his biggest impact on special teams. Boykin proved to be a reliable contributor in that phase of the game, which helped him maintain a role on the roster.

Before joining Pittsburgh, Boykin began his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens. He was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft and had his most productive seasons with the Ravens. In 2020, Boykin caught 19 passes for 266 yards and scored four touchdowns. Across three seasons in Baltimore, he accumulated 33 receptions for 470 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging a solid 14.2 yards per catch.

However, Boykin’s offensive role diminished after leaving the Ravens. With the Steelers, he played under 15% of offensive snaps in both seasons. His primary value came on special teams, where he logged a career-high 207 snaps in 2022. He surpassed that number in 2023, playing 316 special teams snaps — a testament to his versatility and effort in that role.

In 2023, Boykin signed with the New York Giants in free agency. Although initially added to the practice squad, he was released before the start of the regular season. He later joined the Seattle Seahawks on September 18 and remained on their practice squad for the rest of the year, but he did not appear in a regular-season game for either team.

While Boykin moved on, the Steelers were quick to fill his role on special teams. They brought in Ben Skowronek, who became a standout performer on special teams during the 2024 season. Impressed by his play, Pittsburgh re-signed Skowronek to a one-year deal in March. The Steelers also added veteran receiver Scotty Miller, who contributed more on offense but has special teams experience as well. Miller was also re-signed this offseason, helping bolster Pittsburgh’s wide receiver depth and special teams capabilities.

Over six NFL seasons, Boykin has tallied 38 receptions for 498 yards and seven touchdowns. Notably, the bulk of his production came during his early years with the Ravens. Since then, he has transitioned into more of a role player and special teams asset.

Boykin played his college football at Notre Dame, where he had a breakout senior season in 2018. That year, he caught 59 passes for 872 yards and eight touchdowns, establishing himself as a legitimate NFL prospect.

Now, with a chance to contribute to his hometown team, Boykin will look to carve out a meaningful role with the Bears, whether on offense or special teams.
