Saskatchewan Roughriders Sign Talented Defensive Lineman
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have bolstered their defensive front by signing American defensive lineman Aaron Patrick, a move that could add impactful pass-rushing talent to the team’s roster.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 245 pounds, Patrick brings with him valuable professional experience from the NFL. He first entered the league in 2020 when he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent shortly after the NFL Draft. While he didn’t immediately find a permanent home, Patrick spent time developing on the Jaguars’ practice squad toward the end of the 2020 season and continued with the team into early 2021.
Patrick’s big break came when the Denver Broncos picked him up. On September 23, 2021, he was claimed by the Broncos and officially added to their active roster. That same year, Patrick suited up for 12 regular-season games, making one start. In those appearances, he recorded eight total tackles and began to carve out a role for himself as a rotational pass rusher and special teams contributor.
Unfortunately, Patrick’s momentum was interrupted in the 2022 season. He managed to play in five games and collected six tackles before a knee injury sidelined him and ultimately ended his season. That injury was a setback, but Patrick has been working to return to form and continue his professional football journey.
Known for his athleticism and high motor, Patrick was a standout in college before making the leap to the pros. He earned All-American honors during his time at Eastern Kentucky University, where he consistently disrupted offenses with his pass-rushing skills and was considered a leader on the defensive unit. His college production and physical tools helped earn him opportunities at the NFL level, despite going undrafted.
Now with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Patrick will look to reignite his football career north of the border. The CFL presents a fresh start and a chance to showcase the skills that once made him a promising NFL prospect. The Roughriders, who have been looking to strengthen their pass rush and add depth to their defensive line, could benefit greatly from Patrick’s presence if he returns to full health and plays to his potential.
For Patrick, this signing represents a new chapter in a career that has already seen its share of challenges and comebacks. If he can stay healthy and adapt to the Canadian game, he could prove to be a key asset for the Roughriders’ defense in the upcoming season.
The team’s decision to bring him in signals their continued commitment to upgrading their defense with players who possess both experience and upside. As training camp approaches, all eyes will be on Patrick to see how he fits into Saskatchewan’s defensive plans and whether he can become a difference-maker in the CFL.
