Raiders Considered a Potential Landing Spot for All-Pro WR with 82 Touchdowns
The Las Vegas Raiders have a significant need at wide receiver, but with the No. 6 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, there may not be a clear option unless Colorado’s Travis Hunter unexpectedly drops. Given this, acquiring a veteran through a trade might be their best approach.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been the subject of trade speculation for months. While he previously seemed to mend fences with the Dolphins, recent social media activity has reignited rumors that he could be on the move.
Responding to an X post about his trade candidacy, Hill fueled speculation, prompting NFL.com’s Adam Rank to suggest the Raiders as a possible destination.
Hill had a down season in 2024, recording just 959 receiving yards due to Miami’s quarterback injuries. However, he remains an elite playmaker, coming off a 1,799-yard campaign in 2023 where he was voted the league’s best player by his peers. Though he’s now 31 and has battled some minor injuries, Hill remains durable and productive in the right system. The biggest hurdle for any trade would be the financial cost.
What a Tyreek Hill Trade Might Cost
Given his age and contract, Hill might not demand a steep trade price. Davante Adams netted the Raiders only a third-round pick, so the Dolphins could seek a similar return—possibly a third-round pick and additional compensation.
While acquiring Hill for a mid-round selection seems enticing, his contract presents a challenge. He carries a $27.7 million cap hit in 2025, which balloons to $51.9 million in 2026. Additionally, Hill may seek a new deal after falling out of the NFL’s top five highest-paid wide receivers.
Would the Raiders be willing to commit that kind of money to an aging receiver? It’s unlikely. Hill may be a better fit for a team in immediate contention, such as the Baltimore Ravens or Buffalo Bills. A reunion with the Kansas City Chiefs could also be a possibility. If he is ultimately traded, the Raiders may not be the team that acquires him.
How Will the Raiders Fill Their WR Void?
With free agency winding down, Las Vegas has limited options to upgrade the position. A potential reunion with former first-round pick Amari Cooper could be a logical move. Despite a quiet 2024 season, he made the Pro Bowl in 2023 and, at 30 years old, still has the ability to be a high-end WR2 with No. 1 potential in certain matchups.
The Raiders could also look to the draft but may hesitate to use their No. 6 pick on Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan, as it could be considered too high for his projected value. Given the success teams have had finding elite receivers in the second round, Las Vegas might wait until later in the draft to address their need.
