Good News: Four-Star RB Javian Osborne Commits To Notre Dame Over Michigan

Four-Star Running Back Javian Osborne Commits to Notre Dame Over Michigan

Notre Dame secured a major recruiting victory as four-star running back Javian Osborne announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish, choosing them over Michigan. Osborne, a top-100 national prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, had been heavily pursued by both programs, making his decision a significant win for Notre Dame.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back from Texas had initially been viewed as a strong candidate for Michigan, with Wolverines running backs coach Tony Alford leading the charge in his recruitment. Alford had extended an offer to Osborne in early 2023 and had been a key figure in Michigan’s efforts to land the talented rusher. However, Notre Dame made a strong late push and ultimately secured his commitment.

Osborne’s recruitment took an unexpected turn earlier in the offseason when Texas, once seen as a frontrunner, was eliminated from the race. The shift happened after the Longhorns’ former running backs coach, Tashard Choice, accepted a position with the Detroit Lions. Soon after, Osborne canceled his planned official visit to Texas, narrowing his choices to Michigan and Notre Dame.

Notre Dame gained momentum in recent weeks after hosting Osborne for an unofficial visit, which left a strong impression. He had also taken an unofficial trip to Michigan, but the Fighting Irish coaching staff, led by head coach Marcus Freeman, made a lasting impact. Osborne’s decision came after he evaluated both programs and determined that Notre Dame offered the best fit for his future.

As one of the top running backs in the 2026 class, Osborne brings a dynamic skill set to Notre Dame’s offense. In his junior season, he recorded 1,227 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on 188 carries. Additionally, he showcased his versatility with 10 receptions for 167 yards and three touchdowns in the passing game. His speed, agility, and vision make him a valuable addition to the Fighting Irish roster.

Osborne had scheduled official visits to both Michigan and Notre Dame for June, but with his commitment now finalized, those plans will likely be adjusted. His decision strengthens Notre Dame’s 2026 recruiting class, adding another elite playmaker to the team’s future roster.

Landing a player of Osborne’s caliber is a significant boost for Notre Dame, reinforcing its ability to compete with top programs for elite talent. While Michigan made a strong effort to secure his commitment, the Fighting Irish ultimately won out in the end. With his recruitment now settled, Osborne will focus on finishing his high school career and preparing for the next chapter at Notre Dame.
