Breaking: Ex-Tiger Returns to Auburn football’s Pro Day after transferring last offseason and dominates

Former Auburn Linebacker  Impresses at Pro Day After Transfer

Auburn football’s Pro Day featured an outstanding performance from former Tiger Wesley Steiner, who transferred to Washington State for the 2024 season but returned to showcase his skills among other Auburn alumni. Despite spending his final college season away from Auburn, Steiner stood out as one of the most dominant participants at the event.

Peter Rauterkus of AL.com reported on Steiner’s exceptional display across multiple drills, stating that he arguably had the best overall performance of the day. Returning to Auburn after his stint at Washington State, Steiner showcased his elite athleticism from the moment he stepped onto the field. He recorded the best vertical jump, broad jump, and 40-yard dash among all participants while also finishing with the third-highest bench press reps.

Steiner’s Pro Day showing underscored the raw potential he has always possessed. His challenge throughout college was not motivation or physical ability but rather mastering defensive schemes. Playing under multiple defensive coordinators and head coaches throughout his career, Steiner struggled to find consistency on the field. His most productive season came in 2022 under Jeff Schmedding, when he recorded 46 tackles. However, after transferring to Washington State, he saw limited snaps as he adjusted to a new system under defensive coordinator Ron Roberts.

Despite his fluctuating role, former Washington State head coach Jake Dickert, now at Wake Forest, recognized Steiner’s extraordinary athleticism. Last July, Dickert praised Steiner, calling him one of the most physically gifted athletes he had ever coached.

“Wes has proven throughout this summer to be one of the freakiest athletes I’ve ever seen,” Dickert said. “He power-cleaned 405 pounds from the floor—it’s just incredible. Coach Ben (Iannacchione) has never seen anything like it. He’s fast. He’s agile. I’m excited to see it translate on the field.”

With his stellar performance at Auburn’s Pro Day, Steiner has likely turned the heads of NFL scouts. The next step is proving that his elite athletic ability can translate into an opportunity at the professional level.
