Defensive lineman has joined the Carolina Panthers, as reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Brown, a former Texas A&M standout, was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Over the past four seasons, he developed into a key contributor for the Rams’ defensive unit. His 2024 campaign was his most productive yet, as he played in all 17 regular-season games, making 16 starts. Brown recorded a career-best 44 total tackles and also defended one pass, solidifying his presence as a reliable interior lineman.
The Panthers were active in bolstering their defense on Monday, with Brown being one of several new additions. Carolina also signed safety Tre’von Moehrig and defensive end Pat Jones in an effort to strengthen a unit that struggled last season. The Panthers’ defensive front, in particular, had major difficulties stopping the run, allowing an NFL-high 5.2 yards per carry in 2024. Brown’s signing is expected to help address that weakness as the team looks to improve in the trenches.
At 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds, Brown brings a strong physical presence to Carolina’s defensive line. During his time with the Rams, he was known for his ability to clog running lanes and disrupt opposing offenses. His experience playing alongside elite defensive talent in Los Angeles, including All-Pro lineman Aaron Donald, has helped him develop into a disciplined and effective run-stopper.
The Panthers have made it a priority to rebuild their defense after a disappointing 2024 season. In addition to Brown, Moehrig, and Jones, Carolina is expected to continue making moves to strengthen the roster ahead of the 2025 campaign. The team’s struggles against the run played a significant role in its 2-15 record last season, prompting major changes along the defensive front.
Brown’s arrival gives Carolina a dependable option on the interior, where his ability to occupy blockers and control the line of scrimmage should make a difference. With his combination of size, strength, and experience, he has the potential to play a key role in helping the Panthers improve their run defense. As Carolina continues its rebuild, Brown will have an opportunity to establish himself as a leader on the defensive line while contributing to the team’s turnaround in 2025.
