Good News: Ex-Tiger Fan Favorite Most Valued Superstar Returns To Auburn Football After…

Former Auburn Tiger Shines at Pro Day After Transfer

Wesley Steiner, who transferred to Washington State following the 2023 season, delivered an impressive showing at Auburn football’s Pro Day. Despite finishing his college career elsewhere, Steiner participated in the event as one of Hugh Freeze’s former players and made a strong impression.

According to AL.com’s Peter Rauterkus, Steiner dominated multiple drills, standing out among all the participants.

“After spending his final college season away from Auburn, Steiner had arguably the best performance out of all of Monday’s participants,” Rauterkus reported.

Returning to the Plains for Pro Day, Steiner put his athleticism on full display. He posted the top marks in the vertical jump, broad jump, and 40-yard dash while also placing third in bench press reps.

Steiner’s showing reinforced the immense potential he always had. However, his challenge was never motivation—it was understanding defensive schemes. Throughout his time under two different defensive coordinators and head coaches, he struggled to fully grasp the system, which led to inconsistent playing time at Washington State.

While he thrived under Jeff Schmedding in 2022, recording 46 tackles, Steiner never matched that level of production again. Auburn’s Ron Roberts’ system didn’t quite fit him, limiting his impact.

Still, former Washington State head coach Jake Dickert saw something special in him. Last July, Dickert praised Steiner’s elite athletic ability, calling him one of the most physically gifted players he had encountered.

“Wes has proven throughout this summer to be one of the freakiest athletes I’ve ever seen,” Dickert said. “He power-cleaned from the floor 405 pounds. It’s just incredible. Coach Ben (Iannacchione) has never seen it. He’s fast. He’s agile. I’m excited to see it translate out on the field.”

Now, the focus shifts to whether an NFL scout will recognize Steiner’s potential. After his Pro Day performance, he has certainly put himself on the radar.
