Duke basketball’s commitment to winning extends beyond its current roster, as future Blue Devil Nik Khamenia continues to dominate on the high school circuit. While Duke’s No. 2-ranked squad, led by head coach Jon Scheyer, extended its winning streak to 16 games with an 83-54 road victory over Syracuse, Khamenia was making headlines in California with another impressive performance.
Khamenia, a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, played a crucial role in Harvard-Westlake School’s 67-64 victory over Notre Dame High School. The win not only marked the Wolverines’ 18th consecutive triumph but also secured their seventh straight Mission League championship. Khamenia led the way with 24 points, helping his team improve to a 27-1 record and finish undefeated in league play at 7-0.
With the regular season behind them, Harvard-Westlake now sets its sights on winning a third straight state championship. Khamenia’s father, Val Khamenia, who serves as associate head coach at Los Angeles Valley College, spoke highly of his son’s competitive drive during a recent interview. Ranked No. 23 in the 247Sports 2025 Composite, Nik Khamenia has built a reputation for his relentless work ethic and commitment to winning.
“He’s an all-around basketball player,” Val Khamenia said. “But what stands out the most for me as a coach and a father is that he truly loves to win. A lot of people say they want to win, but they’re not always willing to sacrifice and do what it takes
Harvard-Westlake currently ranks No. 2 in the country, according to MaxPreps, trailing only Columbus High School (Fla.). Columbus features another pair of Duke commits—twin brothers Cameron and Cayden Boozer, both McDonald’s All-Americans in the 2025 class.
As Khamenia and his team push for another state title, his winning mentality will soon make its way to Durham, where Duke basketball continues to build an elite program with its top-ranked 2025 recruiting class.
