shared a heartfelt farewell to the Philadelphia Eagles as he prepares for the next chapter of his career. After helping the team win a Super Bowl in February, the Eagles have seen several key players depart this offseason — a common outcome for successful teams, as other franchises try to lure away talent.
While most of the attention focused on defensive losses like Josh Sweat and Milton Williams leaving in free agency, C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s trade, and Brandon Graham’s retirement, the Eagles also quietly parted ways with Maddox. A veteran presence since 2018, Maddox officially signed with the Detroit Lions last week.
On Tuesday, Maddox posted a message to Eagles fans on social media:
“Philadelphia! All love ! Forever will be my home. I appreciate you all!”
The 28-year-old cornerback is heading home, as he grew up in Detroit and will now play for his hometown team. Maddox had even revealed a Lions tattoo on his arm during his time with the Eagles, but despite the move, he made it clear Philadelphia holds a special place in his heart.
Drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round in 2018, Maddox contributed all over the field early in his career — playing safety, slot corner, outside corner, and on special teams. Although injuries were a constant challenge, he was re-signed last offseason and enjoyed his healthiest year, appearing in every game for the first time. Recently, he solidified his role as the team’s primary nickelback.
Now, Maddox is set to return to Lincoln Financial Field — but this time as a visitor when the Lions face the Eagles this season. That matchup will carry extra significance for him as he takes the field against his former team.
