Penn State Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal Tracker: Three 2024 Signees Leaving the Program
The college basketball transfer portal is officially open, and the Penn State Nittany Lions have already experienced multiple departures from their roster. The portal window runs from March 24 to April 22, and while players are leaving, Penn State is also expected to bring in new talent. Below is an update on the players who have entered the portal so far. Updates will follow as changes happen.
Departures
Guard Jahvin Carter
- Signed: 2024 class (3-star recruit)
- Status: Entered the transfer portal
- Summary: Carter became the first Nittany Lion to announce his decision to transfer, doing so a week before the portal officially opened. He was part of head coach Mike Rhoades’ first full recruiting class. Carter’s departure was confirmed by Rhoades during a press conference. This season, Carter appeared in 26 games, averaging 8.2 minutes per game. Despite being an early contributor, he ultimately chose to explore other opportunities.
Forward Hudson Ward
- Signed: 2024 class (3-star recruit)
- Status: Entered the transfer portal
- Summary: Ward is the second member of the 2024 recruiting class to transfer. Unlike Carter, Ward saw very limited action on the court. He played in only eight games and averaged 2.5 minutes per appearance, typically entering during garbage time when the game’s outcome was already decided. Ward was a late addition to Rhoades’ first recruiting class but did not secure a consistent role.
Forward/Center Miles Goodman
- Signed: 2024 class (4-star recruit)
- Status: Entered the transfer portal
- Summary: Goodman marks the third departure from the 2024 class and is considered the most significant loss so far. Rated as one of the top recruits in program history, Goodman was a four-star prospect and ranked No. 95 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Unfortunately, he struggled with injuries before the season started and never carved out a major role in the team’s rotation. Goodman’s exit leaves a notable gap in the Nittany Lions’ frontcourt.
Penn State’s roster movement is ongoing, and more changes are expected as the portal window progresses.
