Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball team has suffered a significant loss as junior wing Lani White has entered the transfer portal. This marks the first major departure under head coach Megan Duffy. White, who transferred from Utah last year, played a crucial role for the Hokies this past season, averaging 9.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while providing strong defense and versatility on the court.
Her decision follows the departures of freshmen Myah Hazelton and Ramiya White, who entered the portal on Tuesday.
Hazelton, originally committed under former coach Kenny Brooks, and White, who followed assistant coach Jen Hoover from Kentucky, saw limited playing time this season.
White’s exit creates a major gap at the wing position, adding to the challenges Duffy faces in her second year. With Rose Micheaux and Matilda Ekh graduating, the Hokies now need to replace three starters. It remains uncertain if more players will enter the portal, but Duffy is expected to be proactive in recruiting through the transfer market to rebuild the roster.
