The Missouri Tigers’ head football coach, Eliah Drinkwitz, has officially announced the addition of linebacker Mikai Gbayor to the team’s roster. Gbayor, a transfer from the University of Nebraska, brings two seasons of Big Ten experience to Missouri’s defense. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 230 pounds, the Irvington, New Jersey native recorded 49 tackles and one sack during his sophomore year, contributing to a total of 73 tackles over his tenure with the Cornhuskers.
Prior to his collegiate career, Gbayor was a three-star recruit with offers from prominent programs such as Alabama, Michigan, and Texas A&M. His versatility allows him to play both inside and outside linebacker positions, making him a valuable asset for the Tigers. The coaching staff anticipates that Gbayor will fill the void left by Miami transfer linebacker Corey Flagg, who was a standout in Missouri’s defense.
The Tigers have been proactive in strengthening their roster through both high school recruiting and the transfer portal. On National Signing Day, Missouri secured a 20-member class, highlighted by five-star defensive end Williams Nwaneri from Lee’s Summit North. This class includes five in-state players, emphasizing the program’s commitment to retaining local talent.
In addition to Gbayor, Missouri has welcomed other transfers to bolster their lineup. Wide receiver Theo Wease, formerly of Oklahoma, brings experience and depth to the receiving corps. Wease, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete, accumulated 64 receptions for 1,044 yards and 10 touchdowns during his time with the Sooners. His addition is expected to enhance the Tigers’ offensive versatility, particularly in complementing standout wideout Luther Burden.
Defensive end Austin Firestone, a transfer from Northwestern, also joins the Tigers, adding depth to the defensive line. Firestone’s presence is particularly significant given the departures of Isaiah McGuire and D.J. Coleman, who are preparing for the NFL Draft. The coaching staff believes that Firestone, along with other defensive end recruits, will help rebuild and strengthen the defensive front.
