Breaking: 6-foot-5 QB Choose To Commit To Auburn Tigers Over Duke

6-Foot-5 QB as Auburn, Duke Battle for His Commitment

Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels are making waves on the recruiting trail, targeting a towering quarterback who’s also drawing strong interest from Duke and Auburn. The new UNC head coach visited 6-foot-5 5-star quarterback Travis Burgess from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, adding a spark to UNC’s spring recruiting push.

Burgess shared the news on social media Saturday, revealing that he met with the eight-time Super Bowl champion. The talented quarterback made a trip to Chapel Hill as the Tar Heels kicked off spring practice under Belichick. With nearly 25 scholarship offers, Burgess is an intriguing prospect known for his size and arm strength.

Last season, Burgess threw for 2,225 yards and 23 touchdowns, along with just four interceptions. He also rushed for four scores. His recent visit to UNC has certainly increased the program’s interest as Belichick looks to build a strong 2026 recruiting class.

Can Belichick Out-Recruit Auburn and Duke?

College football fans are eager to see how Belichick adjusts to recruiting after his lengthy NFL career. Currently, North Carolina sits at No. 23 in the 2026 recruiting rankings according to 247Sports. Auburn, which is heavily pursuing Burgess, is seven spots ahead of UNC. Meanwhile, Duke lags behind at No. 48 with just three verbal commitments.

UNC’s recruiting efforts gained momentum in March. Belichick secured a big win by flipping defensive lineman Trashawn Ruffin from Texas A&M on St. Patrick’s Day. Ruffin, a highly-rated in-state prospect, became UNC’s top-ranked commit so far.

UNC also added three-star defensive lineman David Jackson from Olney, Maryland earlier in March. With nine verbal commitments currently, the Tar Heels hope to add more talent as spring practice continues. Additionally, former Alabama commit Jamarrion Gordon has placed North Carolina on his shortlist, giving Belichick another potential win on the recruiting trail.
