Clippers Sign to Two-Way Contract
The Los Angeles Clippers have added forward Patrick Baldwin Jr. to their roster by signing him to a two-way contract, according to a report from Shams Charania of ESPN.
Baldwin’s journey this season has been full of movement. He began the year with the Washington Wizards before being involved in a series of trades. First, he was sent to the Milwaukee Bucks, but his time there was short-lived as he was quickly flipped to the San Antonio Spurs. However, Baldwin didn’t stay long in San Antonio either, as the Spurs decided to waive him in early February, making him a free agent.
Now, Baldwin has found a new opportunity with the Clippers. Under the terms of his two-way deal, he will split his time between Los Angeles’ NBA squad and their G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers. This type of contract allows Baldwin to gain valuable experience at the NBA level while also getting consistent playing time in the G League to continue his development.
Originally a first-round pick by the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Draft, Baldwin entered the league with significant potential. During his rookie season with Golden State, he showed flashes of his scoring and shooting ability but struggled to secure a consistent role in the rotation. He was part of the trade package that sent Jordan Poole to the Wizards in exchange for veteran Chris Paul during the 2023 offseason.
Despite a rocky start to his career, Baldwin still possesses intriguing upside. At 6-foot-9, he offers size and shooting range that could fit well in the Clippers’ system. His ability to stretch the floor makes him an interesting option for a team looking to add depth on the wing and in the frontcourt.
With the Clippers, Baldwin will have a chance to develop further while learning from a veteran core that includes stars like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Time in the G League should also give him the opportunity to refine his game and build confidence.
As the season continues, it will be worth monitoring how Baldwin progresses and whether he can carve out a role with the Clippers down the stretch. For now, the two-way deal gives him a fresh start and another opportunity to prove himself at the professional level.
