ESPN Sad News Report: Just In Another Top Penn State Key Starter Officially Enter Transfer Portal

Penn State Guard Enters Transfer Portal

Penn State freshman guard Jahvin Carter has officially entered the transfer portal as he looks for an opportunity with another program.

Following the conclusion of Penn State’s season — after the team chose not to participate in the NIT or the new “The Crown” tournament in Las Vegas — attention has now shifted to roster changes and transfer portal decisions. Earlier today, Carter’s decision to transfer was first reported by “Recruits Zone” and later confirmed by head coach Mike Rhoades during his end-of-season press conference.

Carter saw limited playing time during his first year, primarily due to Ace Baldwin Jr. dominating minutes at the point guard position.

Although Carter showed potential and proved he could compete in the Big Ten, his path to becoming the team’s starting point guard became uncertain. With highly touted Top-50 recruit Kayden Mingo set to join the Nittany Lions, Carter likely saw limited opportunities ahead, making his decision to transfer understandable.

Coach Rhoades and his staff are expected to explore the transfer portal to strengthen next season’s roster, potentially targeting a point guard to share the load with Mingo. Carter’s departure opens the door for further adjustments as the team reshapes its lineup for the future.

Penn State thanked Jahvin Carter for his contributions this season and wished him success wherever his basketball journey takes him next.
