The Golden State Warriors have made a notable addition to their roster as they continue their playoff push, signing former New York Knicks lottery pick Kevin Knox II. The move comes as the Warriors look to bolster their depth and add some length and shooting to the bench for the final stretch of the regular season.
Kevin Knox, who was selected ninth overall by the Knicks in the 2018 NBA Draft, has had a winding journey through the NBA since his arrival. Once viewed as a promising young talent out of Kentucky, Knox struggled to find his footing in New York. Despite flashes of potential during his rookie season, inconsistency and limited playing time under multiple coaching changes hampered his development. After spending three and a half seasons with the Knicks, Knox was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 2022. Since then, he has also had stints with the Detroit Pistons and Portland Trail Blazers, but has yet to recapture the form that made him a top-10 pick.
Now, the 24-year-old forward will get a fresh opportunity with one of the NBA’s most successful franchises in recent years. According to reports, the Warriors are signing Knox to a 10-day contract, giving him a chance to prove he can contribute during this crucial stretch. Golden State has been dealing with injuries and inconsistent bench production, making this a low-risk move with potential upside.
Knox’s skill set aligns with what the Warriors value in their system. At 6-foot-7 with a long wingspan, Knox has the size and athleticism to be an impact player on both ends of the floor. He is a capable three-point shooter when in rhythm and can provide spacing, which fits well with Golden State’s ball movement-heavy offense. Defensively, his length offers versatility, though consistency has been an issue throughout his career.
The Warriors currently sit in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race, battling for positioning in a crowded field. With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green leading the charge, Golden State is aiming to make another deep playoff run. The addition of Knox may not be a blockbuster move, but it gives head coach Steve Kerr another option off the bench as the team looks for the right combinations to solidify their rotation.
