Done Deal: Carolina Panthers Officially Re-signed Former Top Experienced Fan Favorite Superstar To Reshape Squad

Panthers Bring Back Versatile Safety Nick Scott

The Carolina Panthers are reuniting with a familiar face to strengthen their defense. After missing out on free agent defensive tackle Milton Williams, the Panthers continued their offseason moves by re-signing veteran safety Nick Scott, according to Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported, “The Panthers have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran safety and special teams ace Nick Scott. He’s back in Carolina.”

Scott, originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft, spent his first four seasons in L.A. He didn’t earn a starting role until his third year and eventually became a full-time starter in 2022, starting all 16 games he played that season.

Following his rookie contract, Scott signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023, appearing in all 17 games and starting 10. He joined the Panthers in 2024, aiming to add depth to a defense that ranked third in the NFL against the pass the previous season.

Known for his versatility, Scott played multiple roles during his first year in Carolina:

  • Free safety: 172 snaps
  • Box safety: 86 snaps
  • Slot corner: 54 snaps
  • Field goal/extra point block unit: 49 snaps
  • Punt coverage: 45 snaps
  • Kick return: 43 snaps
  • Kick coverage: 24 snaps
  • Punt return: 11 snaps

Though Scott may not be a star like Budda Baker or Kyle Hamilton, his ability to contribute in different areas makes him valuable to the Panthers’ roster.

Despite a solid finish to their 2024 campaign, Carolina still has work to do if they want to compete in the NFC. However, if head coach Dave Canales can build on last season’s momentum, the Panthers could be in the mix for the NFC South — one of the league’s weaker divisions.

With Nick Scott back in the fold, Carolina secures a reliable and flexible piece for its defense heading into 2025.
