Breaking: Virginia Tech Hokies Loose Another Key Starter To Divisional Rivals

Virginia Tech basketball: Sophomore guard Brandon Rechsteiner enters transfer portal

Virginia Tech sophomore guard Brandon Rechsteiner has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, becoming the fourth Hokies player to do so. On Tuesday, sophomores Rodney Brown, Jaydon Young, and Patrick Wessler all announced their decisions to transfer. Rechsteiner followed suit on Wednesday.

A 6-foot-1 guard from Acworth, Georgia, Rechsteiner starred at Etowah High School and was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class, known primarily for his strong three-point shooting. However, his shooting consistency didn’t fully translate at the college level, though he did show flashes of his potential late in the season.

During the 2024-25 season, Rechsteiner appeared in all 32 games, earning 15 starts. He averaged seven points and three assists in 22 minutes per game. Rechsteiner opened the season as Virginia Tech’s starting point guard after Hysier Miller was dismissed from the team right before the season began. Early on, Rechsteiner struggled with turnovers in his lead role, which eventually led to freshman Ben Hammond taking over point guard duties.

Rechsteiner found more success coming off the bench, where he was able to focus more on scoring rather than running the offense. He delivered some strong performances, including two standout games late in the season. Still, turnover issues continued to surface.

In his two seasons at Virginia Tech, Rechsteiner played in 58 games, averaging 4.7 points per contest.

The staff at Gobbler Country wishes Brandon Rechsteiner the best as he moves forward in his basketball career.
