The Philadelphia Eagles have added depth to their tight end group by signing former Indianapolis Colts tight end Kylen Granson to a one-year deal. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the reigning Super Bowl champions secured Granson, who was previously a free agent.
Granson, 26, was originally drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Over his time in Indianapolis, he played in 62 games, making 17 starts. He recorded 86 receptions for 958 yards, averaging 11.1 yards per catch, and scored one touchdown. Despite his contributions, the Colts’ tight end group struggled to make a significant impact last season, leading to the team’s decision to seek more dynamic playmakers at the position.
Given the Colts’ direction, Granson’s return to Indianapolis seemed unlikely. His move to the Eagles provides him with a fresh opportunity in an offense that could benefit from his skill set. Philadelphia, meanwhile, is reportedly considering trading their starting tight end, Dallas Goedert, likely due to salary cap concerns. If Goedert is moved, Granson could see an increased role in the offense.
Meanwhile, the Colts face additional uncertainty at tight end. Veteran Mo Alie-Cox is also a free agent, and his future with Indianapolis remains unclear. He may opt to sign with a team that has stronger playoff aspirations.
Looking ahead, the Colts have been linked to Penn State’s standout tight end Tyler Warren. Several NFL analysts believe Indianapolis could target Warren early in the upcoming draft as they look to revamp their tight end room with a more reliable receiving threat.
Granson’s departure marks another shift for the Colts as they reshape their offense. For the Eagles, his signing provides depth and flexibility at a position that could undergo changes before the start of the 2025 season.
