Former Florida State Commit Chooses Florida Gators
A highly rated recruit has made yet another change in his college decision.
During a challenging 2024 season, Florida State saw multiple recruits withdraw their verbal commitments. While most of these losses came from the 2025 class, the Seminoles also lost a key player from their 2026 class—four-star linebacker Izayia Williams.
Heading into his senior season, Williams has announced his fourth commitment in the recruiting process. On Thursday night, he declared his pledge to the Florida Gators, stating that his recruitment is now ‘100% shut down.’
However, given his history, that statement may warrant skepticism. Williams initially committed to Louisville in November 2023 but rescinded that decision in January 2024. He later committed to Syracuse in April, only to reopen his recruitment again on August 4. Shortly after, on September 4, he joined Florida State’s class but decommitted on November 7—his third change in under a year. Given his pattern, another switch before signing day in December remains a possibility.
Williams had an outstanding junior season at Tavares High School, excelling on both sides of the field. Defensively, he recorded 125 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, four sacks, a fumble recovery, and an interception returned 57 yards for a touchdown. On offense, he contributed 23 carries for 423 yards and six touchdowns, along with five receptions for 97 yards and four scores.
The Florida native showcased his dominance with eight games of 10+ tackles. His most notable performances included a season-high 20 tackles in a 15-12 loss to Mount Dora High School on October 14 and 103 rushing yards with two touchdowns, plus 15 tackles, in a 28-7 victory over Deltona High School on October 28. Tavares High School finished the 2024 season with a 7-3 record.
Although it is uncertain whether Williams will continue visiting other schools, he recently listed Florida State in his top five alongside Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Penn State. He attended FSU’s junior day in January and is scheduled for an official visit to Tallahassee from June 20-22.
The 6-foot-1.5, 215-pound linebacker is ranked as the No. 54 overall prospect, the No. 3 linebacker, and the No. 6 player in Florida for the 2026 class, according to 247Sports.
Currently, Florida State’s 2026 recruiting class holds seven commitments and ranks 12th nationally. The group includes four-star prospects WR Efrem White, WR Darryon Williams, DB Darryl Bell III, RB Amari Clemons, and DB Tedarius Hughes, along with three-star recruits LB Karon Maycock and OL Xavier Payne.
For the 2025 season, the Seminoles’ linebacker group consists of experienced players, including redshirt seniors Stefon Thompson and Elijah Herring, along with several juniors and younger talents.
