Penn State’s athletic programs have recently experienced the departure of several key players across different sports, impacting both football and basketball teams.
Football
Backup quarterback Beau Pribula entered the transfer portal just before Penn State’s first College Football Playoff game against SMU. Head coach James Franklin expressed concerns about the timing of such transfers, emphasizing the need for better management within college football.
Additionally, former players Jameial Lyons and Kaveion Keys faced felony rape charges stemming from an alleged incident on campus in July 2024. Both were suspended and are no longer part of the football program, highlighting the university’s commitment to addressing serious allegations.
Basketball
The men’s basketball team saw the departure of leading scorer Kanye Clary, who transferred to Mississippi State. This move came after a season where the Nittany Lions finished with a 9–11 record in the Big Ten Conference under first-year head coach Mike Rhoades. Clary’s exit presents challenges for the team’s offensive strategy in the upcoming season.
These departures underscore the dynamic nature of collegiate athletics, where teams must continually adapt to changes in player personnel due to transfers, legal issues, and other factors.
