Breaking: Texas Longhorns Top Talented Key Starter Announced Departure To Join Rivals

Texas Misses Out on 2026 WR  to Clemson

The Texas Longhorns came up short in their pursuit of elite 2026 wide receiver Naeem Burroughs, as the Jacksonville native committed to the Clemson Tigers on Saturday. On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported that Burroughs picked Clemson over Texas, Florida, and USC, despite receiving offers from several other top programs, including Texas A&M, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Florida State, Wisconsin, and Alabama.

Burroughs, who attends The Bolles School, is ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 2 receiver in the 2026 class, according to On3 Sports. He also holds the distinction of being the No. 4 overall player from Florida. Listed at 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, Burroughs made it clear that he is committed to Clemson for the long haul.

“I’m shutting it down,” Burroughs stated after his decision.

Leading up to his commitment, Florida appeared to be the frontrunner, with the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine giving the Gators an 87.7% chance of landing him. Clemson, meanwhile, had just a 2.1% probability, and Texas’ chances were even slimmer at 1.7%. Despite the odds, the Tigers managed to secure his pledge, while Florida State and USC also remained in the mix but with minimal projected chances.

However, Texas still has an opportunity to flip Burroughs. The talented receiver is scheduled to take an official visit to Austin on June 20, marking his first trip to the Longhorns’ campus. If Texas can make a strong impression, they might be able to sway him before signing day.

Had Burroughs committed to Texas, he would have joined an already impressive 2026 recruiting class under head coach Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorns’ class features five-star quarterback Dia Bell, along with four-star receiver Chris Stewart and four-star offensive tackle Max Wright.

Burroughs had an impressive junior season in 2024, recording 33 receptions for 829 yards. He also showcased his talent at the 2025 Under Armour All-America Game, hauling in three catches for 93 yards.
